Haha, so on the discussion of "Why do rich people dress like bums?"
We came to the conclusion that the behavior of throwing money away on depreciating assets such as cars and clothes is what seperates the millionaires from the rest of society.

"People with money who are not the asshole noveau riche, i.e., who are comfortable in their own skins, don't give one good goddamn what twerps like you or other shallow wannabes think.

They wear what they want when they want, and the old line rich do not generally ever put their money into cars -- they consider this vulgar -- but rather spend what money they spend on their estates, although also never in a showy, vulgar way.

Now, yacht salesman have LONG known this, and would never turn away a no socks wearing, courduroy pants guy, as they KNOW how the old line rich habitually dress.

Many, many noveau riche (I can't help but think of large swatches of New Jersey when I think of same) have more newly acquired money than taste, are still the same vulgar and insecure assholes they were before acquiring some money by being relentless assholes, and so NEED to impress other shallow asswipes with their bling -- which, apparently, is the only metric of supposed personal worth that these twerps understand."

This is an interesting topic.

I can't say if I'll end up changing if/when I stumble across wealth. I mean, I'm mostly broke now, and still give away every penny to my name to those who would use it better than I.

Yet I feel if I did have the cash, I'd probably splurge on a car. Not saying that I'd buy a new car every week or something -- it would most likely be something I'd keep forever, but it'll probably be nice. My house and clothing would both be pieces of me that would most likely stay the same. My house will be modest, and my clothing will still come from JCP. :P

Hahaha, I admit, when I do procure some wealth (according to my resolution - this year) I would be guilty of indulging in shallow things. I'd definitely buy a nice car. I've always driven an old piece of junk, or taken the bus. I'd want a nice house with big rooms, someplace near a warm beach.
I think I'd stick to my thrift shops for clothes. Or design my own.
But no matter how much money I have, I won't go crazy with designer purses, monstrous jewels, fast cars, or huge mansions. There are a lot of things more important than bling and spinning rims..

Heh, but there's a big difference between splurging on something, and going completely overboard.

For example, I've always wanted a Corvette. I'd probably buy a Corvette. In all fairness, I'd probably own one WITHOUT all of the money, but still. However, I will not do stupid shit to it like putting spinners and crap all over it. I'm happy with just having one. :) What kind of car would you get, out of curiosity?

The house thing -- Asking for big rooms or near a beach I still don't see as being unreasonable. It is the folks that have 16 bedrooms, five bathrooms, a McDonalds and a full race track around their house that I have to raise an eyebrow at.

You note this in the end sentence and I agree fully: there's a difference between treating yourself, and simply wasting your money.

Hmm.. I honestly know nothing about cars. I think I'd want something sturdy and luxurious, not necessarily a race car, since I drive like a snail. But I'd like something that wasn't breaking down every other month.
I'd still walk to anyplace nearby - like the beach. Heh, I can dream.
I don't want a huge house, but I do want a library / office and a sewing room. It's good to be practical. I'd rather spend money on my children's education and expanding my business than on pedicures, golden toilets, or a race track around my house - haha!!
It is one thing to want nice things, to want to feel alive and accomplished. It's another to be wasteful and stupid. I suppose it gets more and more difficult to draw that line the more money you have..

Sturdy and luxurious sounds like a Cadillac/Lincoln. :) I'm the same way though -- if I could walk places I would much rather prefer doing that than driving. Long distances though? I love love love to drive.

Ohhhh my gosh a library! I want one too! The way I imagined mine would be would look like a round tower like room in one side of my house. I know round rooms are impractical, but how awesome would that be? :D

A sewing room would also be nice, I think. Are you big into sewing?

Oh, I'd love a round tower. Made with old brick and stone. That would make a wonderful library. I always picture in my head shelves of books along the walls, filled from floor to ceiling.
I need a room to stack my fabric collection and tables for my sewing machines and for cutting and design work. I'm a designer, so sewing is kinda important to me. Hehe.
